Exploration for minerals and extraction of minerals
The first phases of a mineral resources project often consist of fieldwork and exploration for the desired minerals or other information about geology. These activities can affect the environment and nature in the area, such as disturbance of wildlife during transport and activities, or local pollution through the use of chemicals during drilling or the use of machinery. For the work, the advisors use maps of important or sensitive biological areas, the latest knowledge about wildlife and other nature, and information about the properties of chemicals or equipment.
Part of the advisory work is confidential in certain phases of the projects in accordance with the Mineral Resources Act. Therefore, only publicly available material is published here. The material will also be presented at publicly available consultations.
On the website of the Government of Greenland www.govmin.gl/minerals you will find an updated list of granted exploration and exploitation permits.
