Birds

60 different species of birds breed in Greenland, of which 20 species breed mainly on the coast. Half of the breeding birds migrate away from Greenland in winter.

Choose a bird from the list below and read about their biology, distribution and status in Greenland as well as about research and management.

The birds are found everywhere in Greenland from the coast and to isolated nunataks or far out to sea. Only the inland ice is not a habitat for birds. The exploitation of birds has enabled humans to live in the Arctic. Eiders and arctic guillemots have been of particular importance to the household.
