Scientific Advice on Marine Mammals

Greenland share most marine mammal populations with other countries, and advise on management of marine mammals in Greenland is supplied through scientific committees under the pertinent international organizations, in which Greenland is represented by Pinngortitaleriffik/the Greenland Institute of Natural resources.

  • North Atlantic Marine Mammal Commission, NAMMCO (All marine mammals, except polar bear)
  • The International Whaling Commission, IWC (Great whales)
  • Joint Commission on Conservation and Management of Narwhal and Beluga, JCNB (Narwhal and beluga in West Greenland)
  • IUCN Polar Bear Specialist Group (Polar bear)
  • ICES/NAFO seal group (Harp and hooded seal)
