Collaboration with Expedition Glacialis Published 21.07.2021

The polar sailboat Atlas stopped in Nuuk this week as part of Expedition Glacialis, a project aiming at documenting the fragile Arctic marine environment and raising awareness about the many different issues it is facing. Caroline Bouchard, researcher at the Greenland Climate Research Centre is collaborating with Expedition Glacialis. She went onboard Atlas to bring Bongo nets and show the crew how to use it to collect zooplankton samples and fish larvae. Atlas is now sailing towards Disko Bay and maybe further North if time and conditions allows.

Sailboats and other small platforms are increasingly being used for research projects in the Arctic. For example, Caroline’s collaboration with the ATKA expedition in 2019 resulted in interesting findings on West Greenland fish populations (Eggs in hot water).
