Deep sea shrimp stocks are reduced, and total catches should be reduced Published 12.11.2008

Deep-sea shrimp stocks have been reduced in West Greenland, and catches should not exceed 110,000 tonnes in 2009, according to the biologists in the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources.

All available information indicates, that the stocks are reduced, as well as the distribution is retracted. At the same time, the recruits are in low numbers. The fishing effort is concentrated in fewer areas more to the north. The fishing effort has therefore stayed relatively high, even with a reduced stock.

With an expected total catch in 2008 to reach 132,000 tonnes, the recommended 110,000 corresponds with a reduction of 20%.

The recommended catch for East Greenland is unchanged at 12,400 tonnes
