Visit from the ATI school Published 05.04.2011

On 23 and 24 March GINR was visited by three pupils and a teacher from the ATI school in Maniitsoq. The first day they joined the MarinBasis monitoring program and assisted in the monthly sample gathering off Nuuk. Having returned to the laboratory, the pupils assisted in filtrating and cleansing water samples for further analysis of plankton, nutrient salts, chlorophyll, ammonium etc.

After a good nights sleep the pupils returned to GINR where they gained thorough insight into how the nature south of Nuuk is surveyed by the monitoring program Bio Basis. Having attended a brief lecture on GINR’s research on hump back whales in Godthåbsfjorden, they were informed on how GINR assists in the counselling process which is necessary with regard to fishing and sustainable exploitation of a stock. Before leaving the institute, each student helped dissect the cods caught at Kapisillit.
